Nearly one year after initial designs by China's Ma Yansong were unveiled to the public, refinements to the George Lucas Museum of Narrative Art planned for a lakefront site in Chicago have been released.

The site will be located between Soldier Field and McCormick Place and is currently a parking lot, When MAD Architects' design was unveiled last year happened some controversy about its size and alien form. Actually it looks a bit like Imagineer John Hench early concepts for Disneyland Space Mountain, but considering that the museum will include rare memorabilia pieces from Star Wars, the "space" style of the architecture is almost logical.

In the revised design the form is basically the same, but the footprint of the museum has been trimmed by 25%, from 400,000 square feet (37,160 sm) to 300,000 square feet (27,870 sm) to apparently make more room for outdoors green spaces.

However if we look at the new renderings shown here and those from November 2014, it is hard to detect differences besides the refinement and added polish that has come with the imagery. Subtle changes are more obvious in the scale and prominence of the halo on the top of the building adhere there will be an observation deck.

The most obvious change is with the landsape, designed by SCAPE with Studio Gang Architects; and what was just some grass and trees fronting the museum is now, as you'll see on the picture below, a series of zigzagging paths leading to a raised terrace at the entrance to the building. Further, a cutaway axonometric gives an indication of how the interior would work, something that was described previously only in words.

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel supports the new design but the museum apparently still has to gain the proper approvals before moving the construction begins. One impediment is a lawsuit filed by Friends of the Parks last year, which argues that the proposal violates the long-held protection of the lakefront from buildings. The usual environmental obstacles - which sometime are legitimate - but let's hope that they'll find an agreement as the museum in addition to Star Wars memorabilia's visitors will also find some from Indiana Jones. Works - if all goes well, are scheduled to start in March 2016 for an opening not before 2018.

The most interesting news of the day is coming from Industrial Light & Magic, the legendary special & visual effects company created by George Lucas which has always been on the forefront of technology since Lucas founded it, and we learn they're developing some Virtual Reality-based "experiential entertainment" that will allow to interact with characters and settings from the Star Wars universe. THR points out that Lucasfilm and ILM have formed the ILM Experience Lab (ILMxLAB) to develop and create "virtual reality, augmented reality, real-time cinema, theme park entertainment and narrative-based experiences for future platforms."

From a THR article: "Industrial Light & Magic and parent company Lucasfilm have formed the ILM Experience Lab (ILMxLAB) to create immersive content — notably, experiences based on its Star Wars franchise. This will include virtual reality, augmented reality, real-time cinema, theme park entertainment and future platforms.

"Anything and everything is what you can expect," said Lucasfilm executive vp and ILM president Lynwen Brennan, speaking with The Hollywood Reporter. “The wonderful thing about the Star Wars universe is that there are so many stories that have yet to been explored. We are not restricting that universe [to the stories in the existing films]. All will be telling stories — that’s one of our core principles — with a point of view and emotion.”

She noted that this Star Wars content will be available for mass-market VR goggles, specialized VR and AR, and immersive cinema. “And the initial, most high-end experiences will be in the [Disney] parks.”

Brennan emphasized that the new unit isn’t just about Star Wars. While she declined to name specifics, she confirmed that the new unit will produce both live action and animated content and is working on other Disney-owned IP — which of course includes the Marvel universe as well as Pixar films — in addition to IP from other filmmakers and studios, and new original characters and stories. Some are already in production; the first such project, a Jurassic Park experience, is being demoed with Oculus Rift prototype VR goggles.

Creating these projects will be ILM artists — the same that are working on Star Wars: The Force Awakens and other such ILM VFX work. Brennan said the unit will also be adding staff, particularly on the technology side."

More details will be unveiled later this year, and in the meantime have a look at the video below.

Everyone who have seen the Iron Man movies probably love the way Tony Stark manipulates 3D holograms when he's working on his inventions. Well, Microsoft unveiled yesterday during their Windows 10 announcement something which seems to use the same kind of technology that Tony Stark uses in the Iron Man movies.

During the presentation the Microsoft guys had a "one more thing" to introduce to the world, and it's called HoloLens. HoloLens is a see-through headset that allows you to see digital holograms that interact with your physical environment. Holographic technology - as they call it because i'm not sure we can call this real "holograms" - seems to be a big deal right now but for me and as cool as it looks it seems to be closer to "augmented reality" than real holograms, that's why i don't buy really what Microsoft is trying to sell us in their marketing presentation.

Anyway, check out the videos below. and let's wait until we try this technology in real to see if it is really amazing, or just a "one more thing" which will make our lives probably more "fun", but not necessarily better.

Disney fans are going to like this "Beachbot" robot as the guys from Disney Research have created an adorable robot looking like Finding Nemo's sea turtle Crush able to draw by itself pictures onto a beach!

From Techcrunch: "The robot — aptly called “Beachbot” — works by dragging a set of pins through the sand, sort of like a rake. Each pin is individually raisable, allowing the bot to draw lines of varying thicknesses. More pins down = thicker lines drawn.

The artist behind the robot starts a canvas by setting down poles, which the robot uses as markers to finely calculate its position. At that point, the robot can be passed an image file to draw automatically, or the artists can steer it manually.

The Beachbot moves on a set of large, soft wheels that Disney has dubbed “balloon wheels”, allowing it to move across the sand without leaving tracks or screwing up whatever it’s drawn previously.

Why? A) Because why not. and B) It doesn’t require much thinking to come up with practical uses for this, even just within the realm of Disney. Disney has beach resorts. People would flip out to wake up in the morning and see their favorite characters drawn in the sand outside of their room — and by lunch, high tide would come in and wash it away, prepping the canvas for a new drawing the next day.

This project, like a good number of Disney Research’s projects, was built in collaboration with Swiss engineering school ETH Zürich."

It was a rumor, and now it's not anymore: Sony is really working on a eInk Watch and as you will see in the video it'll be one of the most brilliant idea since the invention of watch. Basically, they've found a way to use e-paper not only for the watchface itself, but around the strap itself too and just at the click of a button or even by a move the strap and the watch will change of pattern or color! And you'll have 24 different choices!

Flexible E-ink displays are nothing new, but as you'll see on the other video the technology could be used for others wearable items like shoes, glasses, and all of them could change of colors in less than a second. As they say, a picture worth a thousand words, so have a look at the videos below!

The first version of the RX100 released by Sony two years ago was a huge hit from day one and acclaimed by almost everyone who owns it and tech blogs, including by the one of David Pogue who, in the New York Times, did a long review explaining why he thought the RX100 was simply "the best compact camera ever made". And, boy, did i agreed with him! Like everyone who had the good idea to buy the first version i was stunned by the quality of the pictures, due to the amazing Sony 20M pixel sensor, the quality of the lens giving amazing sharpness of each image, etc... all this in a such small camera.

And recently, after Sony released last year the Mark 2 version of the RX100, they've released the third version, the RX100 M3 and this latest one beats them all and will please both enthusiasts amateurs and professional photographers... If just like me you're looking for a camera which is at the same time small, light, and can shoot pictures of an amazing quality - almost like a DSLR - then the Sony RX100 M3 is for you, as it's case - all in magnesium - is as small as a pack of cigarettes, it weights only 290G - battery include - and yes, it's a real "pocket camera"!

Not only its design is pure and beautiful but the new RX100 M3 has all the numerous great options, settings, manual controls and capabilities which existed in the M1 and M2 but it comes with much more as you will see. First, the Zeiss lens is now a 24 -70 mm ( instead than 28 - 100 on the M1 and M2 ) and although some might regret that it don't goes up to 100mm the fact that it starts at 24mm instead than 28mm is invaluable. And by the way, you can always get closer to the subject you're shooting... or use the digital zoom which is amazingly good for a digital zoom. Have a look at the pictures below shot in wide angle. By the way, please click on each picture of this article to see them in big size as they've been uploaded in almost real size for each file.

As always the quality of the "pixel" is stunning, thanks to the new EXMOR R CMOS sensor so if you need to zoom in post production in the image without losing quality you'll be able to do it easily. The contrast is always perfect, and colors are vibrant without being over saturated.

Among all the numerous options / functions available on the RX100 you can of course choose to do everything manually but the "Auto" or even better the "Intelligent Auto" mode is doing a great work, really. And, in the SCN ( scenes ) options there is my favorite which is the "Hand Held Twilight" mode. This one is here normally to shoot great pics at twilight without a stand but i use it too when it's full night, or when i am inside a place where there is not too much light and the result is stunning. Basically, the camera shoot 10 pics in one second and make the best out of them. The result is almost 100% of the time a picture incredibly sharp with great colors and all this hand held without a stand. Have a look at some examples below, all shot in the Quai Branly Museum in Paris, beautiful but the lighting is incredibly dark! Also note that the ISO sensitivity can go up to 25600 ISO.

There is of course also several options to shoot in black and white, and the rich tone B&W or high contrast mode will give you great results with always amazing sharpness. Below, a picture of paris Eiffel tower in B&W.

Also new on this Mark 3 version, the new codec video as not only the RX100 M3 shoot great pictures but it also film HD 1080p video and the new XAVC-S codec mean less compression than with the previous AVCHD and so better quality. Just remember that you can record in XAVC-S only on a SDXC card, not on a SDHC, which is no big problem as you can find SDXC memory cards easily.

But what tops it all what is new in the RX100 M3 is the amazing viewfinder that Sony engineers succeeded to include in a such tiny camera. And an electronic viewfinder with a gorgeous definition which will be very helpful if you can't see well in the 3" display screen because there is too much sun or it's too dark. The viewfinder pop-up when you need it and when you don't you just put it down so it couldn't be more simple. Because of that the flash is now in the center with the viewfinder on the left, and it's even better to have the flash in the center.

Talking about the 3" screen this one too have something new as it can move and be adjust up to 180} which will be perfect for those who're looking to shoot some selfies.

The battery last 3 hours, even if you shoot a lot, but as always it's always better to have one more battery with you, just in case. Now, you can charge the battery directly inside the camera but if you prefer - like i do - to charge it on an external charger, Sony is doing one that you can buy.

The camera do have WIFI so you can easily download the pics on your phone or iPad to see how they look on a bigger screen while you are in vacation. And if you have a HDTV with a usb connection you can connect the RX100 directly to the TV and watch pics and movies instantly, very easily.

I'd like to find something going wrong on this camera but, honestly, each version has been from the start a delight to use with such satisfactory results that i can hardly find one. Okay, here is one: if you buy this RX100 M3, think to buy too the leather case that Sony is doing. Why? Because although the camera is remarkably small it's almost a little bit too small, and the case will add 6mm more in large and give you a better grip on the camera, and of course a perfect protection.

The Sony RX100 M3 official price is $799 which might look to you a bit high, but believe me, it's the best pocket camera money can buy and you'll love it instantly, and won't regret one cent! Have a look below at a series of pictures shot when i was in Paris recently, all shot day or night without a stand! And for a complete list of its specification jump HERE to the Sony website.

Georges Lucas has a big, big project and it's called The Lucas Museum of Narrative Art. Located at Chicago - instead than San Francisco where it was first envisioned - it will be a gathering place to experience narrative art and the evolution of moving images – from illustration to cinema to the digital mediums of the future.

What are "Narrative Arts"? Narrative Art tells a story. It uses the power of the visual image to ignite imaginations, evoke emotions and capture universal cultural truths and aspirations. What distinguishes Narrative Art from other genres is its ability to narrate a story across diverse cultures, preserving it for future generations. As there is different forms of narrative arts the museum will have different sections, one for illustrations, children's art, comic art, photography, pin-up art... another one for the Art of Cinema will present Cinematic Design, Set Design, Prop Design, Costume and Fashion Design, Makeup and Creature Design, Animation or Visual Effects. Another section will talk bout digital arts with focus on Digital Cinema, Digital Illustration, Digital Fine Art, Digital Sculpture and digital architecture.

Talking about architecture, the architectural concept for the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art will explore the relationship between nature and the urban environment. Inspired by the work of Frank Lloyd Wright and Mies van der Rohe, the design integrates the natural beauty of the park and Lake Michigan with the powerful man-made architecture of Chicago. The design furthers the Museum’s mission to be a place of education, culture, and inspiration.

The Lucas Museum design is both futuristic and timeless. Its continuous, undulating organic surface blurs the line between structure and landscape. As the harbor rises up to the land, it merges with stone surfaces that reach up to the sky and ultimately crescendo into a “floating” disc. The Museum is not an isolated object, but a spatial experience that is defined by the people who occupy it and interact with it. Its organic surface is made of a single material, a stone as primitive as it is futuristic, evoking the great achievements of architectural history. It is a place to discover and explore, to communicate and contemplate. More than a building, it is an urban vista for social interaction, bringing people closer to each other and to nature.
Inside, four levels of exhibition space in infinite loops will inspire the imagination to ponder endless possibilities, both in content and design.

The design for the Lucas Museum mirrors the objective of the artwork inside: It tells a story. The narrative ushers in the future of architectural design, exploring the relationship between man and nature. Its iconic design aspires to join the ranks of Chicago’s many cherished landmarks.
Those of you who have dizziness may avoid the future of flying as the British company Centre for Process Innovation (CPI) unveiled "Aerospace Aircraft Windowless" his airplane project where windowless cabin walls are covered with a "digital wallpaper" that rebroadcast the sky and the landscape that surrounds the device, all in real time filmed by cameras located outside. These technologies display ultra-soft high definition which will allow passengers to choose their preferred view or use the screen as an on-board multimedia entertainment device.

The screens, which work with organic light emitting diodes (OLED), also appear on the back of seats. This innovation would also help to make the plane lighter and more aerodynamic at the same time, reducing fuel costs and carbon footprint.

Although the technology is still in development, ICC has developed flexible OLED lighting devices of different thicknesses and colors. Recently, the company has also shown that such devices could be bent to a radius of a millimeter without being seen to decline in quality in their operations.

A few months ago, Technicon Design had already unveiled its "Ixion jet", a private aircraft without window that transforms the walls inside his cabin into a giant screen to offer a panoramic view to its passengers, as you will see on the other video below.

If you've read my update posted on August 24, one month ago, then you're probably aware of this new patent filed by WDI showing an amazing use of a fleet of drones, whether it would be in a show above the castle or as puppet masters during a parade - if you didn't read the article jump HERE first.

Although the idea looked impressive some had some doubts that it could become real, mainly because the patent described an outdoor use of the drones and unpredictable wind could create real problems due to the light weight of quadcopter drones.

But today, i've found these two videos released by the Cirque du Soleil - actually it was done by the C-Lab, the creative laboratory of the Cirque du Soleil. Although what they did here with drones is very different than the use intended by WDI, you must watch these videos to understand how it's possible to create something truly magical with a ballet of drones. It has the typical "spirit" of the Cirque du Soleil, and i think they did something truly great.

The first video below shows the short movie itself called "SPARKED: A Live Interaction Between Humans and Quadcopters" and watch it until the end credits...

And the other not-to-be-missed video is this one called "SPARKED: Behind the Technology" in which they speak about the different tests they did using these drones. I'm sure you'll envision what WDI could do with the same technology, including show effects not necessarily described in the WDI patent.

French company Aldebaran robotics unveiled this week its new robot, a friendly humanoid named Pepper who talks, gesticulates, zips by on wheels and has an “emotion engine,” designed to understand how people are feeling and react accordingly. The goal was “to give the robot a heart”.

Pepper will learn on its own and the robots deployed at SoftBank stores in Tokyo will start collecting data on their interactions with people. When Pepper tells a joke, it will observe if people laugh, for example. The robots will upload their data to a cloud-based repository. This “cloud AI,” as it is called, will use the combined data to improve Pepper’s behavior. “The robot is going to evolve through this collective wisdom,” he said. As Pepper’s technology improves, SoftBank envisions the robot entertaining people at parties, playing with children, and keeping company to the elderly.

The robot is 1.2 meter tall and weighs 28 kilograms, and it carries a 10.1-inch touch screen on its chest. It has 20 motors and can move its head, shoulders, elbows, wrists, fingers, hips, and knees. Aldebaran developed a proprietary mechanism to measure electrical current consumption on each motor, allowing the robot to detect forces on its body. In addition, Hall effect sensors are used for motor positioning.

The robot’s head has four microphones, two HD cameras (in the mouth and forehead), and a 3-D depth sensor (behind the eyes). There’s a gyroscope in the torso and touch sensors in the head and hands. The mobile base has two sonars, six lasers, three bumper sensors, and a gyro, and it can drive at up to 3 kilometers per hour.

The robot spoke only in Japanese at the demo, but it can also speak English, French, and Spanish. Pepper’s battery operates for up to 12 hours, though in the future that may change if Aldebaran equips the robot with legs, a possibility that was mentioned at the event.

Aldebaran built the robot for SoftBank, the Japanese telecom giant, which plans to start selling it to consumers in Japan next February for 198,000 yen - US $1,900. The robot will be produced by Taiwanese electronics manufacturer Foxconn, the company which makes iPhones and other Apple products.

Here is a first video and below the press release by Aldebaran.

The latest creation from Aldebaran Robotics is called Pepper and it is the first robot designed to live with humans. At the risk of disappointing you, he doesn't clean, doesn't cook and doesn't have super powers... But he talks, can read your emotions, move and live autonomously.

Engaging and friendly, Pepper is much more than a robot, he’s a companion able to communicate with you through the most intuitive interface we know: voice, touch and emotions.

AN EMOTIONAL COMPANION

Pepper tries to understand your emotions. If you burst out laughing, he will know you are in a good mood. If you frown, Pepper will understand that something is bothering you.

Pepper knows what state you are in, using his knowledge of universal emotions (joy, surprise, anger, doubt and sadness) and his ability to analyse your facial expression, your body language and the words you use. He will guess your mood, and will even adapt to it. For example, he will try to cheer you up by playing your favourite song!

Pepper also can express emotions, and this is what makes him so cute! He has a real personality, expressed by his body language, his funny gestures or his voice.

AN INTERACTIVE AND EVOLUTIVE COMPANION

Peppers loves to talk with humans, he's very curious about us! As you go along, Pepper will recognise you, and learn new things about your tastes. Capable of adaptation and self-improvement, he will soon be able to search for new applications to surprise and entertain you!

Pepper's goal is to learn and grow step by step so that one day he can be your companion at home. Today, he's not perfect but he has been created to allow all developers and creatives to make him evolve!

Our goal at Aldebaran is to create robots for the well being of humans, kind robots living with humans as a new artificial species. In order to realise this dream, it's not enough to simply have Pepper working at SoftBank stores. The ultimate goal is for Pepper to live with humans, the stores are just the beginning...

It's official! Sony finally announced the highly awaited Sony RX100 M3 and all rumors were right, it does have a 24 - 70 mm 1.8 - 2.8 Zeiss lens, a built-in "pop up" OLED viewfinder, a screen tilting at 180° to shoot your favorite selfies, and record videos in the new - and excellent - XAVC S format!

I told you before all the good things i think of the previous RX 100 and RX 100 M2 - which were awarded by the New York Times as the "best compact camera ever made" - a title the RX100 really deserves - but this one top the M1 and M2. And dimensions remain almost the same which mean that the RX 100 M3 is always a true "pocket camera". All the previous features are still there, including the fantastic 20M Pixels sensor and i can't wait to buy this RX 100 M3 and do a full review with sample images as soon as it will be available, probably around the end of June.

Remember this legendary scene in the first Star Wars movie - now Episode 4 - with a hologram of Princess Leia projected by R2D2? I mean: THAT scene:

Well, now you can have for your own iPad, or others tablets or mobile phone, or for your computer a virtual keyboard also projected by R2D2 and with the original R2D2 sounds! Isn't it cool?

Last week, Runat announced for the "Star Wars May the 4th be with you" a mini droid R2-D2, the Imp. R2-D2 Virtual Keyboard, which will allow iPhone / iPod touch / iPad owners to use a projection screen keyboard to enter text.

The mini-projector displays the keyboard thanks to a laser beam and the keyboard has 68 QWERTY keys. It communicates with the device via a Bluetooth 3.0 connection. The little R2D2 repeats the original sounds to indicate that a pressed key has been taken into account. The rechargeable Lithium-ion 660 mAh battery provides 2 hours of battery life.

Early reservations started on may 4 on the Runat site, but sales for this cool Imp. R2-D2 Virtual Keyboard will start in August, priced at ¥ 33,480 / € 236. Dimensions: 70 x 51 x 98 mm.

Here is a short video, not perfect, but that's the only one available for now. This R2D2 virtual keyboard is a bit pricey, but if you're interested to order one have a look HERE or HERE.

I've got something pretty amazing for you in this Monday morning! Do you remember the beloved Disney attractions filmed in Circle-Vision? Disneyland Paris fans surely remember with nostalgia the great Visionarium movie in which Jules Verne meet H.G Wells. Not to mention the great ones at Disneyland whether it was "America the Beautiful" or "America Journeys", now extinct attractions since a long time... But at Epcot World Showcase visitors can still enjoy two Circle-Vision movies: Reflections of China at the China pavilion and O Canada! at the Canada pavilion. I think that the new 2007 version of O Canada! - an update of the original film with 50% new footage - was probably the last Circle-Vision movie filmed by WDI Imagineers.

What you also probably know is that Circle-Vision movies needed a huge and heavy camera to film at 360 degrees. Above, you have a picture of it and below, the camera was fixed on a bobsleigh for the bobsleigh sequence of the Visionarium, known as "From time to Time" at WDW.

Now, the great news is that you won't need anymore a huge camera to film your own 360° movies as a company named CENTR has developed a 360° video camera which is so small and light that you can hold it in the palm of your hand!

It was designed by people who worked previously on the iPhone camera at Apple. And it works pretty easy: you film, the software stick together the four parts - as there is four lens all around it - and you can even edit your movie with Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro or iMovie! Include with the camera is a Tripod mount which is "reversible" and include a GoPro adapter which means that those of you who already have the GoPro accessories will be able to use them to fix the camera!
The CENTR Camera stitches videos together from four independent HD image sensors. CENTR footage can be viewed through your desktop, smartphone, or tablet in real-time via Wi-Fi through the CENTR interactive player. And you can create everything from "Circle-Vision" movies, amazing panoramic time lapses to the ultimate 360° selfie. As you can see on the picture below it is really unbelievably tiny.

The project is currently on Kickstarter HERE and the camera will cost you $399 but only $299 is you order one during the Kickstarter crowd funding until May 31. You can see short clips as example of how it looks and i have to say that having a 360° video camera for $299 ( 215 Euros ) sound like a pretty good deal to me... Have a look at the video below for more infos!

Now, guess what, there is ANOTHER 360° camera which is launched -actually it was even launched a few months before the CENTR camera - and it's the Geonaute 360 camera. It's a bit bigger than the one above but is looks very good too, and was the winner of "Best of Innovations" 2014 award, so you might want to have a look at it too, right HERE.

This one will cost you a bit more during the pre-order period - $399 - and you also have sample movies on the website HERE.

It's always amazing to see how the technology now offer things unthinkable just ten years ago. That's the good side of technology, i suppose... As to know which one is the best between the two 360° cameras above, both looks good and interesting so don't ask me to make a choice, though if i have to order one myself, i'll probably take the CENTR camera.
Disney Research, the Disney division which is paid to research and create new technologies found how to create textile renderings of 3D features on multi touch devices - like your iPhone or iPad - which is exactly what was missing. A person sliding a finger across a topographic map displayed on a touch screen can feel the bumps and curves of hills and valleys, despite the screen’s smooth surface, with the aid of a novel algorithm created by Disney Research, Pittsburgh for tactile rendering of 3D features and textures.

By altering the friction encountered as a person’s fingertip glides across a surface, the Disney algorithm can create a perception of a 3D bump on a touch surface without having to physically move the surface. The method can be used to simulate the feel of a wide variety of objects and textures.

The algorithm is based on a discovery that when a person slides a finger over a real physical bump, the person perceives the bump largely because lateral friction forces stretch and compress skin on the sliding finger.

“Our brain perceives the 3D bump on a surface mostly from information that it receives via skin stretching,” said Ivan Poupyrev, who directs Disney Research, Pittsburgh’s Interaction Group. “Therefore, if we can artificially stretch skin on a finger as it slides on the touch screen, the brain will be fooled into thinking an actual physical bump is on a touch screen even though the touch surface is completely smooth”

Disney Research, Pittsburgh researchers will present their findings at the ACM Symposium on User Interface Software and Technology, Oct. 8-‐11, in St Andrews, Scotland.

In their experiments, the Disney researchers used electro vibration to modulate the friction between the sliding finger and the touch surface with electrostatic forces. Researchers created and validated a psychophysical model that closely simulates friction forces perceived by the human finger when it slides over a real bump.

The model was then incorporated into an algorithm that dynamically modulates the frictional forces on a sliding finger so that they match the tactile properties of the visual content displayed on the touch screen along the finger’s path. A broad variety of visual artifacts thus can be dynamically enhanced with tactile feedback that adjusts as the visual display changes.

“The traditional approach to tactile feedback is to have a library of canned effects that are played back whenever a particular interaction occurs,” said Ali Israr, a Disney Research, Pittsburgh research engineer who was the research lead on the project. “This makes it difficult to create a tactile feedback for dynamic visual content, where the sizes and orientation of features constantly change. With our algorithm we do not have one or two effects, but a set of controls that make it possible to tune tactile effects to a specific visual artifact on the fly.”

“Touch interaction has become the standard for smartphones, tablets and even desktop computers, so designing algorithms that can convert the visual content into believable tactile sensations has immense potential for enriching the user experience,” Poupyrev said. “We believe our algorithm will make it possible to render rich tactile information over visual content and that this will lead to new applications for tactile displays.”

You probably have heard that Tokyo won two days ago the organization of the 2020 Olympic Games. It's a great news indeed for Tokyo and the whole Japan and with the legendary know-how of the Japanese there is no doubt that not only there will be ready in time but also that the 2020 Olympic Games will be great.

A new Olympic stadium will be built for Tokyo 2020 and its architecture is absolutely gorgeous. The stadium is designed by the great architect Zaha Hadid, the first woman architect to have won the legendary Pritzker price in 2004 - the equivalent of the Nobel prize for architects. I suggest you have a look at these spectacular renderings as for sure this new stadium has a fascinating futuristic "Sci-Fi" design.
Then a short clip was released and i thought it looked terrible, and i was not the only one as Steve Wozniak himself declared that it looked "so far from everything that really happened". And Woz knows what he's talking about as he was there with Steve during all these years of Apple's creation...

Then, today, the first theatrical trailer was released and i have to admit that the trailer does its job, it looks less terrible than i expected. We'll see if the movie will be as good as the trailer is!
Even if you're not a "Trekkie" you may have seen the new and excellent Star Trek Into Darkness movie and you're probably aware of some of the Star Trek tech like space warp drive, teleportation, etc...
From mapping the human brain to 3D printing "nothing stops the progress" as they say, but sometime innovations can happen in the most unexpected sector which is exactly the case of today's "innovention".

The research team at Durex - yes, the famous condom manufacturer - has created what they call "Fundawear", a long-distance iPhone app controlling underwear stimulator - no kidding. So, yes, now there is even "an app for that" and the "multitouch" smart phones screens really deserved to be called like this! That said, why not, and if this "Fundawear" works as well as they say it could be fun.

On the first video below "Durexperiment" team developers located in Australia explain you more about this new "Fundawear" which will be released first in Australia only. Fundawear price hasn't been announced yet.
The creators put their project on the famous Kickstarter web site, asking for $30.000 to put the project into production, and they received an overwhelming an enthusiastic response as, right now - and there is still 26 days to go - the project has 21090 backers and received $1.883.267 M!

And i think they deserve it. Sure, on the demo/presentation video below what they create might not seems extremely interesting but the potential of this 3D pen is interesting and the technique itself amazing. And does it works, you ask? In the video the inventors explain you in detail, but basically the product which is in the pen solidify instantly as soon as it gets out of the pen. It looks simple but it took thousand of years to be able to did it!

The good guys of The Verge had the first test of the non yet available but awaited Google Glass. The Google Glass will allow you to receive a lot of infos right in front your eyes but so far the best feature seems to be the ability of taking pictures or videos, and for the first time ever exactly as you see scenes with your eyes - have a look at the video below as the result is pretty amazing:

"But the feature everyone is going to go crazy with — and the feature you probably most want to use — is Glass’ ability to take photos and video with a "you are there" view. I won’t lie, it’s amazingly powerful (and more than a little scary) to be able to just start recording video or snapping pictures with a couple of flicks of your finger or simple voice commands."

But there might be also a downside with this Google Glass, specially for our private life, and i suggest you to read the CNN article of Andrew Keen right HERE.

Eruptive events on the Sun can be wildly different. Some come just with a solar flare, some with an additional ejection of solar material called a coronal mass ejection (CME), and some with complex moving structures in association with changes in magnetic field lines that loop up into the Sun's atmosphere, the corona.

On July 19, 2012, an eruption occurred on the sun that produced all three. A moderately powerful solar flare exploded on the Sun's lower right hand limb, sending out light and radiation. Next came a CME, which shot off to the right out into space. And then, the Sun treated viewers to one of its dazzling magnetic displays -- a phenomenon known as coronal rain.

Over the course of the next day, hot plasma in the corona cooled and condensed along strong magnetic fields in the region. Magnetic fields, themselves, are invisible, but the charged plasma is forced to move along the lines, showing up brightly in the extreme ultraviolet wavelength of 304 Angstroms, which highlights material at a temperature of about 50,000 Kelvin. This plasma acts as a tracer, helping scientists watch the dance of magnetic fields on the Sun, outlining the fields as it slowly falls back to the solar surface.

The footage in this video was collected by the Solar Dynamics Observatory's AIA instrument. SDO collected one frame every 12 seconds, and the movie plays at 30 frames per second, so each second in this video corresponds to 6 minutes of real time.
Mission : Space at Epcot is one of Walt Disney World favorite attraction, but how is a real space mission? This fantastic video from Commander Sunita Williams filmed inside the Space Station is really fascinating: "In her final days as Commander of the International Space Station, Sunita Williams of NASA recorded an extensive tour of the orbital laboratory and downlinked the video on Nov. 18, just hours before she, cosmonaut Yuri Malenchenko and Flight Engineer Aki Hoshide of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency departed in their Soyuz TMA-05M spacecraft for a landing on the steppe of Kazakhstan. The tour includes scenes of each of the station's modules and research facilities with a running narrative by Williams of the work that has taken place and which is ongoing aboard the orbital outpost".

No, this is not the new set for James Cameron's Avatar sequel but Singapore Gardens by the Bay, the new botanical garden, which has undeniably an "avataresque" feeling and, as you will see, is gorgeous.

Located near Singapore bay and behind the beautiful Marina Bay Sands hotel it's a not-to-be-missed destination for anyone who visit the state city. Why? Not only because the two green houses are architectural wonders and include rare botanical species but also because of these huge "solar trees" which use the light of the sun they catch during day time for a spectacular night show that last 20 minutes each evening. Here are some day and night pictures shot recently, click on each to enjoy them in glorious high- resolution!.
Below, The Marina Bay Sands Hotel at night.

The top of the hotel has the shape of a boat and the Marina Bay Sands is probably now Singapore's icon. The white building in the front is the new Singapore Science and Art museum.

If you go to Singapore you must visit the Marina Bay Sands, not only because it's stunningly beautiful outside and inside, but also because it has the highest infinity pool in the world - 150 meters long - right on the top, at the 55th floor...

...and also because the view of Singapore from the "Sky Park" - from where i've shot the Gardens by the Bay aerial shots above - is fantastic at night.
